The Opening Ceremony of the Bilateral Tri-Service Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Amphibious Exercise between India and the US, known as Tiger Triumph, took place onboard INS Jalashwa today, March 19, 2024. This Exercise underscores the strong strategic partnership between both nations and aims to exchange best practices and Standard Operating Procedures for multinational HADR operations.
The Harbour Phase of the exercise, occurring in Visakhapatnam from March 18 to March 25, 2024, includes pre-sail discussions, Subject Matter Expert Exchanges on professional topics, and discussions on planning and execution procedures for various tasks. Sports activities are also planned to foster camaraderie among the armed forces personnel from both countries. The Sea phase, from March 26 to March 31, 2024, involves setting up a joint Command and Control Centre and a Joint Relief and Medical Camp by units from both nations.
Concurrently, a Planning and Coordination Exercise will refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to ensure efficient coordination between the forces of both countries.
The Indian Navy’s participating units include a Landing Platform Dock, Landing Ship Tanks (Large) with integral Landing Crafts and helicopters, a guided missile Frigate, and Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft. The Indian Army will contribute one infantry battalion group with mechanized forces, while the Indian Air Force will deploy medium lift aircraft, transport helicopters, and a Rapid Action Medical Team (RAMT). Special Ops Forces from all three services will also join the exercise.
The US Task Force comprises a US Navy Landing Platform Dock with integral Landing Craft Air Cushions and helicopters, a Destroyer, maritime reconnaissance, and medium lift aircraft, along with US Marines.
