Defense Minister Rajnath Singh extends benefits to cadets with medical issues

Schemes under Directorate General Resettlement now cover these cadets

RAJNATH-SINGH

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has approved a proposal for the extension of resettlement facilities to cadets invalidated from military training on medical grounds, due to causes attributable to or aggravated by the training. This decision is prompted by the fact that cadets join military academies at a young age with the intention of becoming officers in the Armed Forces, displaying a strong commitment to serving the nation in uniform, despite unfortunate circumstances. For decades, cadets and their parents have been advocating for such resettlement opportunities.

Every year, young cadets undergo academic and military training at military academies with the primary goal of becoming commissioned officers in the Armed Forces. However, according to existing rules, a cadet is considered an officer only after commissioning. Instances arise where, due to the rigors of Military Training, some cadets (10-20 per annum) are medically invalidated, owing to causes attributable to or aggravated by Military Training.

To further expand opportunities for such cadets, the Raksha Mantri has endorsed another proposal from the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare. This proposal allows for the extension of benefits from schemes operated by the Directorate General Resettlement. This initiative will assist 500 cadets who have been invalidated on medical grounds in accessing these schemes, ensuring a brighter future for them. Additionally, future cadets in similar circumstances will also receive the same benefits.
