The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the procurement of Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missiles (MRSAM) for the Indian Navy at an approximate cost of ₹2,960 crore. The agreement was formalized in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh on January 16, 2025, in New Delhi.
The MRSAM system, a standard feature onboard multiple Indian Naval ships, is also planned for integration with most future platforms under acquisition. This contract represents a significant milestone in India’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its defence capabilities and advance the indigenisation of sophisticated military technology.
Aligned with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the missiles will be supplied by BDL under the ‘Buy (Indian)’ category, with a significant proportion of indigenous content. The contract is also expected to create approximately 3.5 lakh mandays of employment in the defence sector, including contributions from various MSMEs.
