Indian Army Unit Heads to Seychelles for Joint Military Drill ‘Exercise Lamitiye – 2024

Today, an Indian Army contingent embarked for Seychelles to partake in the Tenth iteration of the Joint Military Exercise “LAMITIYE-2024” alongside the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF). Scheduled to take place in Seychelles from March 18 to March 27, 2024, “LAMITIYE,” which translates to “Friendship” in Creole, has been a biennial training initiative conducted in Seychelles since 2001. The exercise will see 45 personnel from the GORKHA RIFLES of the Indian Army and the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) engaging.

Focused on enhancing interoperability in Sub-conventional Operations within a Semi-Urban setting under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter on Peacekeeping Operations, the Exercise aims to bolster cooperation and interoperability during Peacekeeping Operations. Additionally, it seeks to bolster bilateral military relations by facilitating the exchange of skills, experiences, and best practices between both armed forces.

Throughout the ten-day Joint Exercise, both sides will collaborate on planning and executing a series of meticulously designed tactical drills to counter potential threats in a Semi-Urban environment. Moreover, they will leverage and demonstrate cutting-edge equipment and technology. The exercise encompasses Field Training Exercises, combat discussions, lectures, and demonstrations, culminating in a two-day Validation Exercise.

This exercise stands to significantly enhance mutual understanding and joint operational effectiveness between the participating troops. Furthermore, it will foster a collaborative partnership and facilitate the sharing of best practices between the Indian Army and the Seychelles Defence Forces.
