Today, the Indian Army organized a seminar and exhibition under the theme “Year of Technology Absorption – Empowering the Soldier,” in collaboration with the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS) at the Manekshaw Centre.
The seminar convened technology experts and industry professionals to discuss the integration of modern technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and advanced hardware into military operations. It aimed to create a collaborative environment between academia and the defense industry to accelerate ongoing efforts for technological advancement in the military.
The event commenced with an inaugural address by General Manoj Pande, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), followed by a keynote address from Dr. Chintan Vaishnav, Mission Director of Atal Innovation Mission (AIM, NITI AAYOG). Subsequently, an exhibition showcased the progress and capabilities of India’s Defense Sector.
Emphasizing the importance of self-reliance in warfighting platforms and critical technologies through indigenous Research & Development, COAS highlighted technology as a new strategic arena driving geopolitical dynamics. He stressed the weaponization of various domains, citing examples from recent conflicts and the proliferation of disruptive technologies, transforming modern warfare.
COAS reaffirmed the Indian Army’s commitment to transitioning into a modern, agile, and technology-enabled force, urging stakeholders to collaborate for a vibrant national defense ecosystem.
The seminar featured three sessions: “Contemporary Technology and Industry Capabilities,” “Empowering Soldiers: Amplifying Impact Through Modern Technologies,” and “Maximizing Technology Effectiveness & Soldier Preparedness.” Each session, moderated by distinguished military leaders, explored various aspects of technology adoption and its impact on soldier empowerment.
The seminar concluded with closing remarks from Lieutenant General Tarun Kumar Aich, Deputy Chief of the Army Staff (Strategy), reflecting on the Indian Army’s transformation journey and the imperative of embracing niche technologies and doctrinal reforms. He reiterated the Army’s commitment to collaboration with industry and academia to empower soldiers.
Overall, the event underscored the significance of technology absorption in strengthening soldier capabilities, showcasing available solutions, and highlighting the crucial role of the Indian Defense Industry in ensuring future-ready armed forces.
