The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Indonesian Coast Guard (Badan Keamanan Laut Republik Indonesia – BAKAMLA) have extended their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Maritime Safety and Security Cooperation for another three years. This renewal was formalized during the 2nd High-Level Meeting (HLM) at the Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi on January 27, 2025. The meeting was chaired by ICG Director General, General Paramesh Sivamani, and BAKAMLA Chief Vice Admiral Irvansyah, who led an eight-member delegation on an official visit to India from January 24-28, 2025.
The discussions focused on strengthening operational collaboration in areas such as Maritime Search and Rescue, Pollution Response, and Maritime Law Enforcement. Both parties emphasized the importance of sharing best practices and maintaining professional exchanges to improve the safety and resilience of the Indo-Pacific region.
In a demonstration of the growing ties between the two nations, ICG Ship Shaunak is currently deployed in Jakarta from January 27-30, 2025, to enhance operational cooperation with BAKAMLA.
