In a joint sea operation, the Indian Navy and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) apprehended a suspicious vessel carrying nearly 3300 Kgs of contraband (3089 Kgs Charas, 158 Kgs Methamphetamine, 25 Kgs Morphine). Acting on intelligence from the Indian Navy’s maritime surveillance aircraft, corroborated with NCB inputs, an IN warship intercepted a suspicious dhow heading towards Indian waters with a significant amount of contraband. The IN units successfully located, tracked, and intercepted the boat at sea.
Boarding operations on the dhow led to the largest recent seizure of narcotics in terms of quantity. Subsequently, the IN warship towed the boat to the nearest Indian port for handing over the crew and contraband to law enforcement agencies.
This operation is noteworthy not just for the quantity and value of the seized contraband but also underscores the collaborative efforts between the Indian Navy and the NCB to disrupt illegal narcotics smuggling routes originating from the Makran coast and flowing towards various Indian Ocean Region countries.
The successful coordinated mission reaffirms the Indian Navy’s strong commitment to thwarting attempts to use the seas for illegal activities, particularly in India’s maritime neighborhood.
