MoD contracts AVNL for 693 BMP2 to BMP2M armament upgrades

On March 13, 2024, the Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL) for the acquisition of 693 Armament Upgrades, transforming Infantry Combat Vehicle BMP2 to BMP2M. This enhancement encompasses Night Enablement, Gunner Main Sight, Commander Panoramic Sight, and Fire Control System (FCS) with Automatic Target Tracker under the Buy {Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured} Category.

AVNL has devised an indigenous solution for endowing existing BMP 2/2K with Night Fighting Capabilities and FCS by integrating sight and FCS developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Chennai.

The armament upgrades will be manufactured by AVNL utilizing equipment and sub-systems from indigenous suppliers, reinforcing the indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem and promoting self-reliance in this domain.
