Indian Navy Team Deployed to Aid in the Rescue of Trapped Miners in Umrangso, Assam

In response to an urgent call for assistance, the Indian Navy has dispatched a specialized team to aid in the rescue of miners trapped in Umrangso, a remote industrial town in Assam’s Dima Hasao district. The team, consisting of one officer and eleven sailors, includes highly skilled Clearance Divers trained in deep-sea diving and recovery operations, and is now on site.

Equipped with advanced tools such as deep-diving gear and underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), the team is prepared for this critical mission.

The rescue effort is being carried out in close coordination with the Indian Army, NDRF, and local civil authorities to ensure swift and effective action.

Airlifted by the Indian Air Force, the team from Visakhapatnam reached the site on the evening of January 7, 2025.

With search and rescue operations in full swing, information is being continuously exchanged among all involved agencies to facilitate efficient progress.

The Indian Navy reaffirms its commitment to providing timely assistance during crises, showcasing its dedication to saving lives and supporting the nation in emergencies.”
