The indigenously designed and built guided missile destroyer, INS Mumbai, is set to participate in the fourth edition of the multinational exercise La Pérouse. This edition will see the involvement of personnel and surface/sub-surface assets from several maritime nations, including the Royal Australian Navy, French Navy, Royal Navy, United States Navy, Indonesian Navy, Royal Malaysian Navy, Republic of Singapore Navy, and Royal Canadian Navy.
The exercise aims to foster common Maritime Situational Awareness by improving cooperation in maritime surveillance, interdiction operations, air operations, and conducting progressive training and information sharing. It offers an opportunity for like-minded navies to strengthen planning, coordination, and information exchange, ultimately enhancing tactical interoperability. The exercise will feature complex multi-domain operations, including surface warfare, anti-air warfare, air defense, cross-deck landings, tactical maneuvers, and constabulary missions such as VBSS (Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure) operations.
The participation of the Indian Navy underscores the high levels of synergy, coordination, and interoperability between these navies, highlighting their shared commitment to a rules-based international maritime order.
This participation aligns with India’s SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision, aimed at enhancing maritime cooperation and ensuring a safer and more secure Indo-Pacific region.
