On December 26, 2024, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully rescued nine Indian crew members from the sunken vessel MSV Taj Dhare Haram, approximately 311 km west of Porbandar, Gujarat, within Pakistan’s Search and Rescue Region in the North Arabian Sea. The mission, conducted under challenging sea conditions, demonstrated exceptional cooperation between the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centres (MRCCs) of Mumbai and Karachi, Pakistan.
The vessel, which had departed from Mundra, Gujarat, bound for Socotra, Yemen, encountered rough seas and severe flooding. A distress signal was detected by an ICG Dornier aircraft during a routine surveillance flight, prompting immediate action from the MRCC Mumbai and the ICG Regional Headquarters (North West) in Gandhinagar. ICGS Shoor, already patrolling nearby, was rapidly dispatched, while MRCC Pakistan alerted nearby vessels. After an extensive search, the crew was found aboard a life raft, having abandoned their sinking ship.
The rescue operation concluded around 4 PM, just before the vessel fully submerged. All nine crew members were safely brought aboard ICGS Shoor, provided medical care, and confirmed to be in good health. The sailors are now being transported to Porbandar Harbour.
