ICG partners with private sector for marine-grade aluminum

MOU

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Hindalco Industries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi on May 9, 2024. The MoU aims to manufacture and supply indigenous marine-grade aluminum to both Indian public and private shipyards for ship construction. Benefits of the MoU include quarterly pricing, priority in supplies, and turnover discounts.

Currently, the ICG fleet operates 67 ships with aluminum hulls capable of operating in shallow waters. To enhance coastal security, the ICG plans to introduce more such vessels utilizing the indigenously manufactured marine-grade aluminum.

The MoU was signed by Deputy Director General (Materiel & Maintenance) of the ICG, IG HK Sharma, and CEO of Downstream Aluminum Business at Hindalco, Shri Nilesh Koul, in the presence of senior ICG officials.
