Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra assumed command of the Indian Air Force’s Western Air Command on January 1, 2025.
Commissioned as a fighter pilot on December 6, 1986, Air Marshal Mishra is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Pune; Air Force Test Pilots School, Bangalore; Air Command and Staff College, USA; and Royal College of Defence Studies, UK. A Fighter Combat Leader and an experimental Test Pilot, he has accumulated over 3,000 hours of flying experience.
With a service career spanning more than 38 years, Air Marshal Mishra has held several key command and staff appointments. These include Commanding Officer of a Fighter Squadron, Chief Test Pilot at the Aircraft & Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE), Air Officer Commanding of two frontline airbases, Director of Operational Planning and Assessment Group, Principal Director (ASR), and Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Projects) at Air HQ (VB). He has also served as Commandant of ASTE and Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Doctrine, Organisation, and Training). Before his current role, he was Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Operations).
A recipient of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal, Air Marshal Mishra succeeds Air Marshal Pankaj Mohan Sinha, who retired on December 31, 2024, after serving the Indian Air Force with distinction for over 39 years.
