Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, PVSM, AVSM, NM officially assumed command of the Indian Navy on April 30, 2024, stepping in as the 26th Chief of the Naval Staff. He takes over from Admiral R Hari Kumar, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC, who retired after a distinguished tenure in the Indian Navy.
Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi is a product of Sainik School Rewa and the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla. Commissioned into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on July 1, 1985, he specialized in Communication and Electronic Warfare. Throughout his career, he served in various capacities aboard frontline warships, including INS Mumbai, where he held positions such as Signal Communication Officer and Electronic Warfare Officer, eventually rising to the roles of Executive Officer and Principal Warfare Officer.
His command experience encompasses INS Vinash, INS Kirch, and INS Trishul. Over his nearly 40-year career, he has held significant operational and staff appointments, such as Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet, Director of Naval Operations, and Principal Director Naval Plans. Promoted to Rear Admiral, he served as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy and Plans) and Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet. As Vice Admiral, he served as Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy, Director General of Naval Operations, Chief of Personnel, and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Naval Command.
Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi has undergone training at Signal School, Kochi, Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Naval Higher Command Course, Karanja, and the Naval Command College at the United States Naval War College. He previously held the position of Vice Chief of Naval Staff before assuming his current role as Chief of the Naval Staff on April 30, 2024.
