Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan, on April 26, 2024. During the session, all SCO Member States’ Defence Ministers signed a protocol, and a Joint Communique was issued afterward. Among various initiatives, the SCO Defence Ministers collectively endorsed the concept of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future,’ inspired by the ancient Indian philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.’
At the gathering, the Defence Secretary reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to upholding peace, stability, and security in the SCO region. He stressed the imperative of adopting a zero-tolerance stance against terrorism in all its manifestations for the prosperity and progress of SCO Member States. Shri Giridhar Aramane also referenced India’s persistent proposal for a Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism at the United Nations. Furthermore, he underscored India’s ‘Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR)’ concept, proposed for the Indo-Pacific.
