Embracing Atmanirbhar Bharat and the ‘Make in India’ initiative, the Department of Military Affairs, under the Ministry of Defence, is conducting an intensive brainstorming session on March 4-5, 2024. This involves Service Headquarters and stakeholders from the Department of Defence Production, Defence Industry, and other partners. The focus is on deriving implementable strategies through consultative processes to boost indigenisation and increase private industry participation in defence R&D and manufacturing. General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff, will lead the sessions, with a keynote address by Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane.
The event addresses a broad spectrum, identifying challenges, advancing indigenisation efforts, addressing sustenance-related issues, and enhancing private sector involvement in defence R&D and manufacturing. A crucial aspect is the creation and enhancement of Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul facilities for the Armed Forces.
Coordinated by HQ IDS and SIDM, the event involves key representatives from MoD, Services, and Industry. It aims to strengthen indigenisation efforts, leading to a time-bound action plan for the defence sector’s indigenisation.
